re: Engadiner nut torte Layers of bewitching caramel pecan and dough coated with chocolate. . . *drool*drool* Luckily for our waistlines (or sadly for our taste buds), only 4 pieces come in the box- 2 dark, 2 milk chocolate.

Great little European cafe. Good coffee and great selection of sweets.

There is no place like Andre's! Their dessert tortes are like no other. It's the most delicious dessert I've ever had anywhere. The almond and marzipan taste present in almost all of the tortes is so delicious. My favorites are the Dobosh and the St. Moritz! But close seconds are the amandine and the lemon pie looking torte (forgot the name). Oh my goodness, I can name so many more because they are all just THAT good. The prepackaged handmade chocolates are just as mouthwatering as well. I try chocolate wherever I travel to and nothing comes close to Andre's in Kansas City!

My hubby and I came here on our date day last week. First impression it seemed hectic. You didn't know who was helping who and who was in line or just looking. The person that waited on us was very nice though and very helpful. I sampled 3 different pieces of chocolate. The first was a chocolate covered orange peel. It was ok. The flavors didn't seem to mix well for me. The other 2 were chocolate truffle and raspberry chocolate truffle. Those were better. The chocolate was very tasty. I wasn't so impressed that I would want to come back. They do have loads of options though and they are very nice.

Andre's is just incredible. I come to Kansas City a couple of times each year and this is the one place I never miss. I come for lunch and leave with a bag of treats. My children would be heartbroken if I did not. The food here is really well done. The menu varies daily, but they always have quiche. However, I have found that I like everything. Even things I do not usually like or I don't think I will like turn out to be heavenly. How do you do that? My children, teenagers now, love to join me and Granny if they get the chance. The wait staff is top notch. They are attentive, knowledgeable and timely. Desserts are great here so save room. They will bring a tray of goodies to the table, but you can ask for others or have them suggest items if you tell them what you like. The Napoleon's here are wonderful as is the matterhorn. The coffee is also very good. Do not skip a few chocolates on your way out. They do them beautifully and they taste as good as they look. The almond rings are also fantastic. Five stars!

5+ stars for sure for their luncheon food, there are limited choices but it's all fantastic, as are their desserts/pastries/chocolates/treats. Andrés is a KC legend, and very deservedly so. But what I absolutely don't love about André's is how brusque a lot of their waitstaff are. I get that they're busy and stressed out, but some of the servers in the dining area are just so grumpy and borderline rude- they seem like they'd rather be anywhere than here. It's such a letdown to have amazing food served by such sour faces. This is not indicative of all the servers though- most of the younger women are really sweet and the older redheaded lady is a gem. The cashiers in the front are mostly all snooty. Very holier-than-thou and annoying. I once picked up a boxed marzipan animal, and one of the clerks snapped 'don't pick that up unless you're buying it,' like I was 3 years old or something. They also won't give you a nice sturdy shopping bag unless you spend at least $30. They might take pity on your full arms, though, and throw a sad little plastic bag your way. I go here at least once a month or so, so I've gotten to know some of the unwritten 'rules' of the place. For first-timers, these things could be a bit off-putting or odd, so please note- *When you come inside, turn left and go to the long bench if you're there for lunch. However, they only seat complete parties. Even if your friend is parking her car in André's lot, unless she's standing right next to you inside the building, you won't get seated. *There is a sign saying 'No Cell Phone Zone,' but they have scannable signs placed all over for you to use your cell phone on to see if you've won a prize. So do they want me to use my phone, or not? I haven't figured out that weirdness yet. *They always have Quiche Lorraine and Cheese Pie available, plus 2 other entrées. That's it. There's no menu. But everything is dynamite. You can't go wrong. Check out andreschocolates.com for a calendar of their menu. *They don't do separate checks, but the cashiers at the front will separate the bill for you. *They will let you substitute different side dishes with your entrées. *When they bring the dessert tray around, ask them if there are any other options. There often are, they just can't fit them all on the tray. I love that they've expanded the seating area, and there's a small outdoor patio now, too. And hallelujah that the nightmare that was their parking lot renovation is over. It's so nice to be able to find a spot close by now. Sign up via phone or their Facebook page for a tour of their facility. It's a lot of fun, plus you get samples. :)

Came here on my visit to kc and wow...the service was great and I haven't even mentioned the desserts and wines. Unfortunately I came in the evening and all the favorites were gone, but the older lady who was working answered all my questions politely and in full detail of what the popular desserts are and how they are made. She was extremely knowledgeable and kind. So was the younger man, but I'll get to him later. I ordered the cheesecake. Very simple. Not extremely rich but very creamy. It was not heavy and the crust was not overbearing but had enough presence to compliment the cheesecake. I liked it, but would love to try the other more popular items. My friends and I went outside to eat our desserts and it had rained. The chairs had all been tucked away and we helped ourselves in getting seated and getting it dry. The younger man who got us utensils came out and wiped down the seats and table for us and brought us extra napkins. It was extremely kind of him to go beyond normal service. I'll definitely be back to try more items later this year.

As a kid we used to buy assorted tortes for various holiday or family events, and as I remember, they are still delicious. Had lunch today with my wife, but the main reason for the stop, was a gift. More on that later. But, upon walking through the door, the breads and aromas, we're too much, and the hunger pains convinced us to stay for lunch. We haven't visited the location for several years, as we live in the northland, but after today, I'm sure we'll make the trip sooner than later. For lunch my wife was served a nicely prepared spinach salad with bacon, shaved onions and walnuts. She actually ate it dry, watching the calories you know, but was happy with the mix of ingredients. I had a ham and gruyere on laugen. Gruyere is a cheese from Switzerland, and laugen, which is a German pretzel bread, both terms I had to look up, so I saved you the trouble and filled in the blanks. The sandwich was very good. I think andre's has perfected their lunch plate sizes, as we were just hungry enough to try their sweets. With a dairy allergy, my choices were limited, but I tried the green bar. It was a moist marzipan bar, topped with shaved almonds and powdered sugar. Let me say, it did the trick for me. My wife had a slice of pistachio torte to go, she wanted to enjoy the goodness over a couple sittings. And finally, My mother, the reason for the initial visit, is a huge fan of chocolate, so if your looking for some of the best, Andre's should be on your radar. She has raved on more than one occasion about just how good their chocolates are. I purchased an assorted box of Carmel's covered in dark chocolate, and a 1/2 lb of assorted chocolates. That should put me in good standing with my dear mother for at least a month, so if your in the dog house, I'm not, this could be your ticket out. Andre's is a great little spot on main, and just as I remember as a kid, it's very, very good.

Finest bakery in town. I love the cakes with the four different flavor a-highly recommend to get this for Mother's Day for you mom, she'll love it. Pistachio, raspberry, coffee, mocha. So delicious. Also their pretzel sandwiches with meat and butter and cheese are amazing! Reminded me of Eating in Europe Very cool to have a glass of wine as well inside

    1) extremely friendly staff - always wanting to make the customer happy. 2) Luxemburgerli - my first it into a Vanilla Bean was life changing. Not an understatement. 3) Gruyere Grilled Cheese - the pear and walnuts are a great contrast to the warm cheese. 4) chocolate covered almonds - as instructed by the Artist, let the chocolate melt in your mouth and you will experience how the chocolate magically has become one with the almond.

B and I had such a great lunch here. We'd never been so I had to take the time to check it out one weekday we were both available for lunch. We sat in the back dining area and for B it was like he was right back in Europe. He gushed about how authentic the rooms looked. The service was incredibly friendly, quick and precise. The food looked great and tasted great. The price is a bit more than I would usually pay for lunch, but it was totally worth is with the dessert included. They even packed ours to go for us. We spent some time exploring the pastry and chocolate counter before we left. We are already planning our next trip to explore the cafe menu.

You know a Swiss place is good when you walk in and you hear Switzerdeutsche spoken by some little old ladies sitting at a corner table, sipping fresh coffee and talking about how delicious their desserts are. That was my first experience when I walked into Andre's. This restaurant is a bit off the beaten-path in Kansas City, but is known to locals as the place to go for great meals and even better desserts! Ambience: Andre's recently underwent a big renovation, and it looks pretty amazing. The front of the store is a coffee shop with a modern European flare to it. Clean lines, lots of white, and a huge picture window that lets guests look out on KC while enjoying their meal. Behind this is a huge group of display cases with tray upon tray of fresh baked goods. Freshly baked croissants, tartes, and all sorts of chocolatey and marzipany-filled delights. And then, there's the chocolate cases: their own hand-made chocolate sections, reminiscent of those little sweet shops dotted all over Switzerland, are for sale. This chocolate in my opinion is the best in KC, and certainly is a rival to the Christopher Elbow craze that is here in town. The back of the restaurant is the main seating area, which was thankfully left unchanged during renovation. When you walk in, you feel like you're sauntering into a chalet in the Alps, with European standards and a gigantic cowbell to charm you. That and the common sight of KC elders speaking French and German in the restaurant complete that feeling of walking right into Switzerland. Food: Oh man, this food is off the chain! They have an a-la-carte menu up front in the cafe, and a pre-fixe menu in the restaurant proper section. This time, I went for the pre-fixe, which, for about $12 or so, gave me an appetizer, entree, dessert, and a coffee/tea/soft drink, as well as fresh bread. There were options of two different types of quiches, a Quiche Lorraine, and a vegetarian quiche, and then some hot and cold entree items. This time, I tried one of their famous puffed-pastry dishes: this was a beef stew packed into a flaky pastry shell. It came with a refreshing carrot salad and a potato puree that was packed full of garlic and buttery flavor. Delicious! The icing on the cake (literally) was the desserts that came afterwards. The hostess brings a tray over of some fresh cakes made during the day. I had the marzipan and coffee roll cake, while my friend had the "Matterhorn", a mountain of chocolate ganache and butter cream. They were epic! It was hard to choose between these and the Napoleon and other chocolate/hazelnut/buttercream options we were presented with. So many tough choices! For coffee, they have fresh French-press and drip-style Roasterie coffee, a huge plus! Price: The price overall is pretty reasonable for a meal here; desserts are a bit expensive, though. The chocolates can get a little pricey, as are the tea cookies, but are probably the tastiest treats ever put into my mouth, so I'd say they're worth the price. Here's the overall scoop: Ambience: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Price: 4.5/5 Overall: 5/5. Epic job, Andres! Probably one of the best-kept secrets in KC, but certainly an institution here in town. I'll certainly be back as much as I can!

We walk in and the employees say do u want something in a sarcastic tone. Then they were annoyed when we asked questions. I asked about a fruit yogurt dish and how much sugar and the guy with glasses was like ha everything has sugar in a rude tone like I was stupid. Very disappointed on the customer service today.

I love everything about Andre's...best chocolate and pastries anywhere, and my favorite place for lunch! They're having pumpkin soup today...yum! Check out their new wine and coffee bar area that will be open in the evenings with food, too. P.S. I'm with Karen, who also just checked in! :-)

Excellent food, but lunch has gotten expensive so I don't go there for lunch anymore. BUT you can't beat the pastries. Matterhorn and rum ball are my favorites. I'm not sure if they card younger folk before selling the rum balls, but you can taste it. Hubby knows that is the only place to buy candy for me on special occasions. I've never met anyone who didn't love their almonds.

I went here with my mom and absolutely loved it. They have a great lunch menu and their baked goods are delicious! Their prices aren't too bad either. I really like the environment there. Isn't really loud and it's a comfortable place to talk and have a good meal. Their candy is to die for so if you don't have time for lunch or dinner, at least get some chocolate! The waiter was also really great. Checked on us, filled our drinks without asking, and greeted us with a smile always. It was a nice experience and I plan to go again in the future!

My wife brought me here for lunch the very first time. I was taken aback by the Swiss decor and the "tea room" atmosphere. I felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb. My wife is a tall dark blonde business professional. She was working that day so she was very well dressed and accessorized. I was off work and was dressed very casually. Now the others in the restaurant were dressed in a variety of ways but without a doubt I was the only man of color in the place. Here I am with "the boss lady"- going out for lunch in shorts, a white-t, Adidas., and baring tattoos and piercings! Lol! Regardless of how out of the ordinary guys like me are for lunch here, our waitress provided us with one of the best service experiences I have ever had. And this is always the case here. I can count on getting excellent service every time. They always have quiche and always something special. Plus dessert is always included. The quiche is RIDICULOUS! The crust is always tender and flaky. And the pie is always rich and delicious. Now when we go one of us always gets a special and one of us gets a quiche. Now, dessert... Matterhorn. That is all.

If you love candy and especially chocolate you have to make the trip to see Andre's. art work candy at very reasonable prices. Definitely a must see place in KCMO. You can eat there also and only need reservations for groups of six and over. We didn't eat because we were shopping and didn't have time to eat.

I really, really like Andre's for lunch with a pal. A girl friend type pal :). It's charming, and easy, and the food is good. Also, your lunch comes with nice, homey side dishes like carrot-raisin salad. They always have a cheese quiche, which is delicious. It's a sort of prix fixe menu, four or five choices of entree and a vegetable side or two. Some memorable side dishes I've had (in addition to the great carrot salad): pureed red pepper soup, a nice simple rice pilaf, a lovely green salad, beautiful creamed spinach, zucchini medallions sauteed with oregano like my Mom used to do. For entrees, I love the cheese/egg pie, but other pies have been chicken and vegetable pot pie, and various veggie-filled quiches. I also have liked the meatloaf a lot, pretty sure there was veal in it due to unctuous tenderness and velvety texture. A delicious mushroom - filled lasagne once. Once a lovely ham and noodle kuchen-type casserole, with peas and perhaps swiss cheese. The portions are not vast but very right, and satisfying. Also, dessert comes with lunch! They have wonderful layered cakes and a huge variety of other treats. They offer coffee and tea when you order usually. It's just so civilized. I think what I like most about this place is that the dishes are complex in a way much restaurant food isn't anymore. You get an actual dish, with ingredients, that is more than the sum of its parts. I know plenty of fine restaurants provide this, but not so many that cost under $15 for lunch, especially "American" sort of food. So many mid-priced restaurants serve chunks of food - a chicken breast, on some other solitary base. And you can have fries, maybe a salad if you are lucky. Andre's lunch feels like your great-aunt made it, just for you and the rest of the bridge club, with love and care. I can't think of this place as anything but a ladies' tearoom, but surely men will like it too.

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Andre's yet. There's really 3 reviews to write in one: The Tearoom, the chocolates and the bakery. The Tearoom: There is a daily prix fixe menu with one rotating item (the baked bread and cheese casserole is amazing) or a choice of Quiche Lorraine or Cheese Pie. I just want to say that the quiche here is the richest, smoothest, creamiest quiche I've ever had. Just awesome. The menu is interesting, although a friend from Zurich says its not very authentic. I always thought Andre's was a KC gem, but it turns out there is one in Denver too. The Chocolates: DIVINE!! I mean come on, who doesn't like chocolate. They have a nice selection of chocolate truffles and other items. The candied orange peel dipped in dark chocolate is my favorite. The Bakery: They bake the loveliest cakes and pastries here. Croissant, macarons, Luxembourgerli, cakes, tarts. I wouldn't go early in the morning, they don't seem to be set up to handle traffic, I went in to get some macarons to take to work as a treat for my co-workers and they weren't even out of the oven yet, so I had to wait around and the staff did a really poor job of handling the situation, both in attitude and communication. I guess there is a fourth part to this review, the "etc." portion. They also sell quite a few other items here, from frozen entrees from their kitchen to tea, jam, biscuits, cheese, etc. Also, the last time I was in they told me that they are going to be putting in a coffee bar soon. I guess they better get used to that early morning customers if they are going to start selling coffee.

I've been going to Andrés for years and years and years and I've never, ever had a bad meal. In fact, every meal has been a five-star experience. The menu changes daily (you can view their monthly menus on their website). It's a prix fixe menu and comes with coffee or tea and dessert...I'll get to that in a minute. There are usually two entrees and two quiches from which to choose. Each entree is simply, yet elegantly prepared. Perfectly portioned, seasoned and accompanied with delicious sides...my favorites are the beets and roasted tomatoes. The carrot salad is also very good. The ambiance is wonderful...reminiscent of a Swiss chalet. They've recently remodeled the front entrance, added a wine bar and extended their hours. Ok, now on to the desserts...at the end of your culinary adventure your server will bring by an dessert tray, beautifully arrayed with colorful and tempting desserts. Something to please every palate. Don't worry...if you're too full, you can take it home to enjoy later. This is a wonderful destination for lunch with the ladies or a mom and daughter outing. Men are, of course, welcomed, too!

If you like sweets and chocolate, then, you're going to love Andre's. I was first exposed to this enchanting restaurant/bakery/chocolatier back in high school. I've never had anything like it before and was instantly hooked. As an adult, I still very much enjoy every time I enter Andre's doors. I go here quite often during the spring and summer months--I live only a few blocks away. The staff is always very friendly. The restaurant and shop are both very clean and cozy. You really do feel like you're in a quaint cabin up in the Alps. The food is great. They only serve lunch and they always have four items on the menu: 2 chef specials (changes daily) and two types of quiche--lorraine and a cheese. Lunch is about $15 and includes a drink, entree and of course, a dessert. It's totally worth it. Everything I've ever had here has been nothing but delicious. Up front they have their sweets and chocolates for sale. I always enjoy their lemon tarts and layered yellow cake with chocolate ganache. My husband and I also enjoy their breads and mini meat pies. Still, after years of patronizing this place, I always find something new and delicious I want to try. It's pretty awesome. ***If you go to Andre's at 5 p.m. during their weekday hours, all the pastries they have left in the display cases up front are 25% off.

Andre's is my favorite kind of chocolate. If you can't find a chocolate you love here you must not like chocolate . The chocolate cherries are sprinkled with red coarse sugar and melt in your mouth. The almonds come dipped in milk or dark chocolate and can be purchased in containers of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or a combination of milk and dark chocolate. Small chocolate bars are also available as is a daily luncheon which I hope to enjoy in the near future. Luncheon reservations are required for parties of 6 or more!

I have been a fan of Andre's for the last fifteen years. It houses a delightful countryside designed Swiss tearoom, along with a front chocolate shop. They serve only lunch, and menus are never printed. Instead a regular cheese quiche as well as a quiche lorraine are offered every day, along with two specialties. You are served bread, tea or coffee, salad and your main dish with some sort of side ranging from braised beets to roasted tomatoes. The food is simple and delicious, flavorful country food with rich German and french influenced sauces. lunch is followed by the dessert of your choice, brought around by one of the wait staff on a tray. typically these involve fancy little petit-fours, rum balls, or other intensely rich sweets. the atmosphere is charming. The tables are small, covered with cotton calico prints and fresh flowers. The wooden walls feature prints of wildflowers and copper chocolate molds. Flags from around the world decorate the ceilings. Scattered throughout the restaurant are prints from Montreal Music festivals. The crowd tends to be made up of about 90% elderly ladies who lunch, a handful of elderly men who've been brought along for the ride, and then a hodge-podge of others there clearly because they love the fine, fine food. At the shop front, you can peruse the freezer to take home quiches, fondues, salad dressings and some salads for dinner. It goes without saying you may purchase any of their lovely pastries to take home or give as gifts, along with their stunning marzipan and painted chocolates. For a very long time, this has been my answer to "if you had a prison final meal, what would your request be?" It's quite a splurge in terms of calories, and it's not something that I permit myself very often. It helps, too, that prices here steadily climb. When I first started going there, two people ate lunch for under $20; now it is much closer to $35. Worth every penny for a charming experience.

Lunches!!! Eat their lunches!!! Usually one of the choices is a quiche, always excellent. Wonderful system, you don't have to ponder a menu, you go in, they tell you the few choices, then you anticipate dessert while you are filled with wonderful whatever you chose. You've gotta get dessert, it comes with the meal. WITH THE MEAL. What a system. Best girl food ever, but I've seen plenty of happy guys there too. Unfortunately, I've never (gasp!) purchased anything from the bakery case as we are usually planning a long day of shopping and didn't want the stuff to sit in the car. Guess I can remedy that by carrying it along with me and munching while we shop!

  • Matthew P.

Amazingly fine and delectable cakes, pastries, and tortes that are made in the Suisse tradition. The best fine pastry shop in Kansas City. And one of my utmost favorite places to splurge. This is how desserts are to be done, artfully, and wonderfully pleasing to the palate. View the website and visit in person as soon as your convenience dictates.

  • Manolo E.

The pastries are clearly traditionally swiss, good but too much German influence over the French. The chocolates on the other hand are quite good if you are selective and stay away from the heavily flavored ones. Chocolate is supposed to be about chocolate, not liqueurs and fruits people! Andre is WAY better than the overpriced stuff that is Christopher Elbow. Want some good chocolates in KC? Come here!

Consistently tasty and elegant place to go for lunch. Set menu is served which includs drink, dessert and choice of meal option. Beware: you will be the only non-grey haired lady in the venue (unless you ARE a grey hair, then you'll fit right in!)

Andre's is a sweet and cake shop, but it also doubles as a great place to get lunch. Get there early, because there will inevitably be a line. Once you get seated, the menu lists two three-course lunch options where you get a salad, a meal and a dessert of some kind. The food rarely disappoints and the desserts are always sensational as it is their specialty. If you have to wait, you can always peruse the display cases full of cakes and sweets, or sit at watch the video that shows them making everything you see. If that doesn't make your mouth water, nothing will!

This place confused me. It got good reviews so we stopped. There weren't any signs or prices on the goodies. There were lots of employees but only one showed interest in trying to help us figure out what everything was. In the end what we got tasted good-their lattes were great if you like European style, not the overly sweet American ones. Good thing someone posted a photo or we would have driven right past. I was glad the prices were reasonable or I would have been dissapointed.

Recommended are Andre's perfect mille-feuilles, mini cakes and tortes, as well as nearly all of it's other masterfully prepared European pastries and chocolates. Unlike lesser bakeries, the texture of Andre's mille-feuilles is perfectly flakey, crisp and buttery, never soggy. The cakes and tortes are perfection as well, with their own very fine, delicate texture, and taste, a far cry from pedestrian American cakes or cupcakes. Based on the very quality of just those two types of items alone, Andre's is one of my absolute favorite places in the city.

A friend of mine had recieved a giftcard from Andre's so she invited me to join her one afternoon for lunch. I had no idea what to expect for lunch at a Chocolate store but did someone say chocolate? I'm in. The 'tearoom' was something like 'quaint suisse cafe meets cocoon'(we were definately the youngest there)- the older generation knows a great place when they find it. It almost felt like a place you would stop in at the last minute while on vacation somewhere. My best impression of the place was the service. Our server was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable and was quick to explain how things worked along with a breakdown each dish. They only serve 2 types of dishes each day, that includes desert and drink(they have a vast amound of hot teas to chose from). I decided to go with the Eggplant Thomas which was perfectly cooked on a bed of pasta and marinara. My friend chose the Chicken Pot pie(eww) but surprisingly wasn't your usual mom and pop chicken pot pie, much more flavorful, flaky, and fresh. Lastly, they brought out the desert tray from which I chose a chocolate mousse like cake. Everything, including service was excellent and I will highly reccomend this place to anyone. I would have given it 5 stars if the prices were a bit less, considering it was lunch and how I would love to eat there more often. Without the giftcard it would've been around $14 each. However, I'm tempted to give it 5 based on service, atmosphere and quality of food. Oh, and with the balance of the giftcard we got a few truffles which I'm 99.9% sure were the most flavorful I've ever had. Definately a special place that anyone will enjoy. I'll be back I'm sure but it won't be often based on the cost.

I haven't lunched here yet...I've never made it beyond the first few dessert cases...I'm easily distracted. (Look! Birds!!) ANYWAY...Andre's has so much to offer. From the sexy little cakes (of which i love the little raspberry chocolate ones, or the mini wedding cake tasting ones), to the wonderfully adorable marzipan animals, to the gorgeously hand crafted truffles, this place is a dessert lovers heaven on earth. **Value tip: see if they have any "slightly imperfect truffles" they taste just like the ones in the case and as long as you don't mind a little scratch or something on your candy you can save a bundle. You've got the try the almonds too...oh jeeze they are fantastic! And from what everyone else says its worth trying this place for lunch soo TRY IT! Enjoy!

Just thinking about Andres makes my stomach rumble and blood sugar spike. All self control is lost when I wander in and see the artful confections taunting me. The quiche is tasty too. When I think of KC I think of two places to eat: Oklahoma Joe's for diner and Andres for lunch and dessert.

The chocolate here is soooo good and it makes you tingle all over after eating or drinking it. I walked in intending to purchase a "few" truffles and walked out with a box full of them, some tea cookies, some random pastries and a huge jar of chocolate shavings to make hot cocoa with. Andre's is dangerously good and puts most other chocolatiers to shame.

My wife is like addicted to Andre's dark chocolate squares, and now she gotten me addicted as well. I haven't eaten at the cafe in years, so I can't comment about that - but we keep going back for the chocolate!

This place is simply a gem of Suisse gastronomy. A lunch for under $14.00 (without tip) where the menu changes every day, and they even have a continental breakfast every day. They even -- get this -- make their own stollen. Stollen is a nice holiday sweet bread; but I'll eat it any time of the year. At any rate, the dining area is like straight out of a Swiss/German/Austrian/French mountain cabin restaurant. It's quaint, lots of natural wood, and the food looks amazing. And rumor has it that dessert comes with the meal. Freaking crazy.

No Waxy build up here- just luscious pure unadulterated chocolate. You cannot go wrong with the truffles (best in KC). The Plaza location has something special going on-since they make the majority of the chocolate on site there, they sell little bags of "chocolate seconds" -mixed bags of chocolate creations albeit with a blemish (funny thing my stomach doesn't know the difference)...I think they are about $2 a bag- I buy three everytime I go- one for me, one for the road and one for a friend.... they are soooo good. I could go on and on and on.... Try their wedding cake- YUM-e. Other Deserts and lunch are of course top notch as well...It suffices to say that you would be hard pressed to make the desserts at home....so go here and stock up!!!

I'd give this place ZERO STARS if that option was available. If you want small portions of tasteless food, overcooked broccoli and horrible service, this place is for you. My chicken voule vent was so bland and tasteless (and nearly chicken-free!) it was more like a miniature truck-stop biscuit and gravy without the flavor. The broccoli was apparently cooked overnight. The best part - when I sent it back uneaten, they charged me the full $14 anyhow! There are a number of good options in the neighborhood - Accurso's, Spin Pizza, Eggtc., Jack Gage.. where you can get a very good lunch at a more reasonable price. And I'm sure that if, for any reason, you couldn't eat their offering they wouldn't have the audacity to charge you for it.

Have not tried the lunch, but I think this is a good place to get gift chocolates from KC with a Swiss touch!. Impressive Kansas City Landmarks chocolates in a classy package.

My review is for lunch only; the coffee, food, and service were mediocre across the board at the KC location. As pleasant as the dessert area is, the lunch was a major disappointment. Lunch does comes w/ dessert (YUM), but daily specials (omelette and croissant sandwich) and pea soup were underwhelming and overpriced. Server was pleasant but preoccupied w/ other things.

I know, I know. A Swiss restaurant. You're thinking chocolate, coo-coo clocks, or maybe even a bank. And generally, you'd be right about the Swiss. But Andre's manages to be more than a great, great chocolate shop (the primary reason for your visit). They also have a very simple "hot" or "cold" item for the day, priced the same and served quickly. A very interesting eclectic crowd will join you and the tables are close without being close enough for you to hear everything your neighbor is saying. Check off the "went to a Swiss restaurant in Missouri" item off your bucket list.

These are simply the best chocolates I have ever eaten. Period. They are beautiful and the flavors are exquisite. Yum. The service is just fine. I would ignore the whiners who have an ax to grind. One piece of chocolate would cure their grumpy demeanors! The only concern I have is for Willy Wonka. One taste of these magic candies and old Willy would be in the unemployment line for sure. This stuff is simply incredible. You can taste the quality in every scrumptious bite!

I agree with Teppi B., Andre's is good enough to top the list of restaurants I miss from afar. Pleasant service, delicious desserts, petite portions and terribly good memories make Andre's one of my favorite restaurants in Kansas City. Over the past 10 years and on numerous special occasions, I've enjoyed an all-inclusive meal of a salad, rolls, a main plate, dessert and beverage for something around $16. Not too shabby.

My wife & I had lunch here for the first time. The lunch portion sizes were perfect and it was delicious. Service was great. $15 each for lunch, desert and coffee all included is very reasonable. I just spent $7 for fast food yesterday and for what.? You get my drift.

This place is simple, elegant perfection. It has a sweets shop in front and a dining room in back for lunch. The "sweets" shop has everything from chocolates, cookies pastries and tortes. Great place to pick yourself up some treats or a perfect place to pick up a torte for a special occasion. I'm a huge fan of their chocolate covered almonds (the best you will ever have), the chocolate covered orange peels and the raspberry chocolate torte. Many different sizes and price points to pick from. Perfect for any occasion you could ever think of. The restaurant is a simple, comfortable place to lunch. Perfect for the "ladies that lunch" kind of crowd and those that enjoy the same. Some of these well quaffed ladies have been lunching here for years. I hope to grow into an ascot-wearing, well quaffed gentlemen that will be doing the same for years to come. The food is great in its simplicity. The service is always fantastic in either the front of back of Andre's. They treat you like gold if you are a regular or not. The entire place makes you want to become a regular. Anyone and everyone should go to Andre's. They make you feel welcome and serve a tremendous product. Now go and enjoy!

Always fresh and tasty, and great service in the dining room. I like that they don't super-size everything! I'm not reviewing the chocolate/confection counter here, -like some other people I like very few of those offerings. But we've been to Andre's for lunch at least 30 times and I've always been very happy with the meal. And I don't leave feeling stuffed. It does get pretty crowded at lunch time but there's a reason for that!

If you haven't had lunch at André's, you haven't been to Kansas City! André's is a Swiss gourmet bakery that would be among the best if were in Switzerland. The deserts are phenomenal. I have purchased many a torte to make a family gathering special. But my favorite part is the lunch. It's the only time they serve something besides the deserts. The chef makes two Swiss gourmet entrees to choose from, you never know what they'll be until you go. Of course, there's always quiche Loraine and cheese quiche as an alternate. Be sure to go early as there will be line waiting for tables. My family has been going here for three generations. While André has long since passed on, as has his wife many years later, (I never knew her real name since everyone called her Mrs. André,) the standards are just as high as if he were overseeing the kitchen. My grandmother would take me here every time I would visit, and it was the highlight of trip each time. She had been going since it opened as she worked nearby and would go for lunch each day. So she became friends with André and his wife. Coming here makes it feel like all three of them are still with me.

I really don't have anything ground breaking to add to the rest. Great food, stellar chocolates, and a price that reflects the quality. What I can add is a little tip about the "Seconds" Chocolate selections. Each day, they pull aside those little morsels that don't fit their quality standards, and make them available ala carte for half price. My wife and I have done this on several occasions, and maybe we just aren't sophisticated enough but we have no idea why they are considered "Seconds". They are always top quality according to our crude JoCo pallettes. They won't have as many options, but at half price I can make that sacrifice.

I will never go to Andre's again. Ever. That breaks my heart to say, because I love their pastries and confections, but enough is enough. I am sick and tired of being treated like garbage every time I enter the place. In a review I wrote two months ago, I gave the place four stars, based on the food rather than on the service. In that review I mentioned that the women behind the pastry counter tend to be frosty and unwelcoming. The owner subsequently left me a comment, saying that the problem had been addressed. Hah! I went there today (04/29/2011), between 12:25 and 12:40pm. Sweetie and I had just finished lunch at Jack Gage, the day was gorgeous, and we decided to walk the half-block to Andre's to get a few take away items for this evening. The woman behind the counter was horrible to us. She was a roundish pale woman with straight blonde hair pulled back in a low ponytail, wearing black. (I say this for purposes of specific identification.) She was sour, rude, distainful, pissy, unpleasant, derisive, you name it. I wish I could think of additional adjectives at the moment, but words escape me. If she were the only employee there like that, I wouldn't have paid too much attention. But EVERY SINGLE TIME I have visited the place, the women, whichever woman, all of them, are the exact same way. To me this behavior is beyond inexplicable. And it is even more incomprehensible to me that management couldn't seem to care less. As much as I love the confections, I will NEVER go back. Andre's lost a very good, ten year customer today. I wonder how many other customers the place has lost for the exact same reason.

This is a great place for lunch, but it is worthwhile to look at the menu on the website before committing to dining plans. The dining room does not have a printed menu, but instead features two specials daily, as well as a quiche (which is served daily). Lunch is accompanied by choice of tea (hot or cold) or coffee as a beverage and a desert. The cost comes to $13.90. The proportions are not grossly huge, but you leave satisfied. The real star of the menu is the desert. My favorite is the little cherry tart, but everyone has a favorite, so it is worthwhile to come back several times to sample a variety of cakes and such (no hardship to the taste buds, but dangerous to the waistline!). At the front of André's is a shop that simply sells the delicious desert delights, chocolates, and the like (as well as food that can be taken home and reheated). Some of my favorite purchases include a bottle of the salad dressing (super rich, but very yummy), quiche (there is no better gift for someone who is stuck at home and doesn't wish to spend an hour in front of the oven), and the sweet rolls (which are best if reheated at home for a few moments in the oven before serving).

Just an update on my resent visit. I've decided to downgrade my rating to a 3-stars. Lunch (my expectation of lunch is something cheaper than what I would pay for dinner) for 4 was $60.00... and they charged me an extra $1.50 for my "included" dessert because it was a "larger" petifore they offer. Their portions are controlled like never before. I left hungry still and ended up raiding the samples at Costco (my destination after Andre's). The food was good, their desserts are delicious, but not for the likings of $60.00. P.S. I stole the remaining dinner rolls my party didn't eat from the table and took them home. Take that, Andre's!

Andrés is one of those fabulous local businesses that is a true gem of Kansas City. Andrés is one of my favorite stops for amazing truffles, baked goods, and deserts. I've tried a few of their small cakes and baked goods. Some of them were better than others, but all of them were rich and delightful. The chocolate truffles has an amazing texture. The outer shell is thin with a melt-in-your-mouth center. Also, there is an extensive selection of flavors, shapes, and design. It's definitely a great place to get a variety of beautiful and unique chocolates for a hostess gift, or just a few for yourself! My favorite part about the truffles is that they keep some "seconds" or slightly imperfect truffles behind the counter. Just ask to see their seconds, and you'll be presented with tray after tray of truffles available at a discounted price. You never know what "imperfections" they may have made that day, but they are always delicious. All of the staff is courteous and knowledgable. Also, Andrés must treat their employees well, because their turnover rate is extremely low. One woman I spoke with worked there for seven years. Occasionally the staff is....how can I put it...aloof. However, I have never found them to be rude, and they are always really helpful when it comes to making decisions about what to purchase. Love the chocolate, staff, and shop. Still haven't gotten to try their lunch - maybe next time!

Andre's...(sigh). How I miss you and your rich, decadent desserts, pastries, and chocolates. I know I don't visit you enough, but I continue to dream about you from afar. Even in Chicago, I sing your praises. Your chocolate covered almonds know no rival. Your chocolate raspberry pastries make me weak in the knees. Your mocca torte takes my breath away. And your delightful lemon tarts make my heart skip a beat. Andre's, you are the standard to which I hold bakeries and European style baked goods. Thank you for all you do. I promise to visit the next time I am in Kansas City.

This review is 100% about their chocolates and chocolates counter. I didn't eat lunch here, but I did stop in to buy a friend a few different chocolate confections as part of a new baby gift. I'd heard how awesome this place was so I figured I couldn't go wrong. When I walked in, I noticed the pastry/chocolate cases immediately and started looking them over for things to buy my friend. Once I'd decided, I tried to get someone's attention for help, but the 4 people behind the counter were either too busy talking to each other or gossiping with another customer at the counter about their daughters' friends' mother. Someone finally decided to look at me and meet my gaze and I asked their opinion on a few different truffles (truffles aren't my thing). I was met with a blank stare and a shrug. Then she left to go help 2 other people! Helloooooo? I'm not really used to feeling like I need to beg someone to actually buy something from their store. But I finally got out of there after over 30 minutes (!!!), most of which was spent waiting on someone to actually sell me something. The chocolates were ok. I got my friend some truffles, a couple of chocolate tort things and some smaller chocolates and she shared them all with me. None of it was really anything I'd go out of my way to buy again. Even so, the service will probably make me avoid going here again. We have MUCH better chocolatiers in KC.

Of all the foodstuffs I miss from Kansas City, nothing ranks higher than Andre's. Even Boulevard and barbecue take a back seat. You should already know about the amazing chocolates, including the ever-popular chocolate covered almonds and orange peel. Everything in the chocolate case is worth a try to find your favorite! (Try the seconds bags on top of the counter for a great, inexpensive sampler) But if you don't know about the REST of Andre's offerings, you are missing out. Lunch is an amazing treat--and it comes with a drink, roll, salad, sides and a dessert. What a wonderful break from standard lunchtime fare--even the sandwiches here are more exciting. The pastries, cookies, baked goods, frozen items, hard to find imported foods...I could go on forever. (And I have; ask anyone who has ever lived with me) Needless to say, Andre's begs for repeat visits--not only to try all of the traditional items handed down for three generations, but also because there are always new things to try. And, if you're coming out to California, can you please bring me some salad dressing?

Sweets shop and bakery are excellent, with helpful staff and delicious and beautiful creations. A box of various chocolate candies turned out to be a great gift for some out-of-towners (Andre's does shipping); definitely pricey, but worth the expense. In addition to artfully crafted chocolates and baked goods, there is a section of frozen soups, ice-creams, cakes, and tortes that are reportedly pretty popular. There's also a couple of binders advertising custom-order chocolates and wedding cakes. The restaurant is quite nice also. Cute, decorated in the style of a Swiss chalet, maybe. Food is pleasant, without being overly fussy; lunch consits of 3-4 choices. Apparently, fresh-baked goods and coffee are served for breakfast. Desserts are excellent. Wait staff is excellent also, and very helpful. Restaurant appears busy, with a good 15-20 minute wait to be seated; reservations are not accepted. Overall, a place I would recommend, and visit again with the parentals or a date.

One of my favorite places in KC, a local gem. They serve a full lunch with pastries and tea or coffee before and after the lunch hour. Their quiche is famous, but so are their chocolate-covered almonds. Mmmmmm! This is a good alternative to the dime-a-dozen cupcake shops, their French pastries are beautiful AND delicious. Andre's is a big fixture in Kansas City!

I really liked the saturday lunch. Good portions, good price, good choices. I haven't tried the "service la carte" yet. The place is really nice, really Swiss. :-) And of course there's the bakery and chocolate shop. It's a treat, for your eyes and your stomach.

Andre's chocolates can often be found at KC culinary events like Fork's & Cork's, which is exactly where I got hooked on the milk chocolate truffles. I have never been in the actual store and there is a reason for that!

Though I have eaten lunch there a couple of times, and always enjoyed it, this review is primarily dedicated to the shop portion of Andre's. I love everything about Andre's. The tiled archway you walk under to enter - the chef logo printed on the pastry bags - how perfect all the pastries look lined up, or piled neatly - the attention to wrapping up your treat the staff provides - perusing the freezer/fridge cases just looking...quiche, main courses, ice cream, fondue, salad dressing - and of course, the choices and the taste! Andre's is one of my happy spots. Some of my favorite items are: raspberry truffles - the dark pink spheres rolled in sugar tea cookies - don't care about the price - this is a box of beauty, taste, and freshness any of the pastries involving fruit the pretzel bread sandwiches - in particular the salami and cheese one. it is a small torpedo of salty goodness...damnit, I could really go for one now!! really almost anything. Even the items I don't end up picking, I enjoy looking at in the case. So many textures, tastes, and subtleties to delight your tongue. Everything is meticulously handmade, and you can truly tell. Swak! A big kiss for you, Andre's.

Andre's is my favorite "ladies who lunch" kind of place. Their lunch price has gotten a little high, but it's worth it for a special occasion because you really do get a lot of value for your money. The experience starts the moment you walk in the door and smell the fabulous pastries. We'll get back to those. The cafe offers about five or six different entree options that change from day to day, but two of them are always quiche, which I generally cannot resist. Lunch is served with fresh-baked rolls, unsalted butter, and a variety of little salads and sides. Then there's the dessert tray. You get your choice of cake or pastry, and you're welcome to request something from the case that isn't on the tray. (If you're a lemon fan, get one of the lemon tarts. Transcendent!) I always have water with my lunch so I can get some of their wonderful coffee with my dessert. Even their decaf is delicious. The entrees are very savory, but probably too small for someone with a hearty appetite. I never take my husband there for that reason, but my sister and girlfriends are happy to step into the void.

Just had to throw in my 2 cents on the lunch experience here...I love the concept, no fountain drinks and 2 or 3 main course options with sides, drink, and desert at one flat price. Had the lasagna and the carrot salad, everything was great but a specific OMG - I love that carrot salad, very smart of them to have it available to take home by the pint (I think it was about that size).

In response to Andre's comment that they do European torte which has dryer cake because the frosting melts into the cake. Cosentino's downtown market has European torte cakes just like yours but their cake is much more moist. They don't have a large selection like Andre's but you'll feel satisfied, not disappointed.

Interesting that some have had less than stellar service at the counter, the women who have waited on me have been across-the-board excellent. And I am in here twice a month (more actually, but I'd never admit to it). Their lemon tarts are the very best dessert they make. The lovely fruit tarts, Matterhorns, rum balls--sigh, I could go on forever. Try the puff pastry sticks in boxes in the freezer next time you need to take an appetiser, or the little meat pastries. The Buche Noel is the best traditional dessert at Christmas. GREAT salad dressing bottled and ready to go. Coffee cakes & breakfast pastries to die for. Really, everything is just a treat. Also, a great, quiet place for coffee and a pastry in the mornings--no one knows about it so it is private. And at the very end of the day any pastry items left in the case are sold at HALF OFF. So that means all the yummy things are fresh every morning... I love Andre's, can you tell?

I've been to both André's locations and they are both nice. They both have that cozy tea room feeling about them. However, I really like sitting outside at the one out south when it's nice enough. I've never had a bad meal here, but it's never blown me away either. Everything is fresh, and I've enjoyed the salads, and getting to choose a dessert off the tray is fun. I have to say though, I HATE their style of cake. It's dry! Thin layers of dry cake with stuff in between the layers that somehow doesn't fix the dryness. I have enjoyed little tartlets and other desserts, just not the cake. There have been times when I've had a young server, and they aren't always the best, but the service is never bad. It's definitely a fun place to go with a group of girlfriends who can behave themselves, say, before an afternoon of shopping.

Very busy little eatery behind the bakery and chocolate shop in back. Got seated immediately, it was harder to find parking than seating. The menu is just three items, and changes daily. I got the bratwurst spaetzle and salad. It was very good. The dumplings had sauerkraut over them and the sausage came with spicy mustard. It was served very expeditiously. The chocolate cake that I chose fro desert was the highlight of the meal! There were six desert choices and the selection was difficult to make. They all looked very tempting. There was a cheescake, a milk chocolate cake, and a custard cake. I wanted them all and I was very pleased with the one I picked.

I have a soft-spot in my heart for Andre's because it was the place my Mom used to take me when I was younger when we would have a girls-only day in KC. Many years later it still makes me happy & impresses. The dining room is like walking into a swiss cabin. Lunch is such a steal! $14 for main dish, side, dessert, and drink (extra points for having no sodas)! For my last lunch there I had poached trout in dill sauce which came with a side of carrot salad & a little rice pilaf. All were perfectly cooked/seasoned & just the right size. It's hard to choose when the dessert tray is presented because all the offerings look & taste so good. Therefore bring more friends so you can taste more desserts. I love that you can view the entire month's menu on the calendar on their website. So if you have a favorite dish or want to try something new you know when to go. After lunch, check out all the sweet treats. They usually let you sample a few. Andre's also offers sauces & savory items (quiche, etc...) in the refrigerator case by the door. Service is decent. I wish they were open Sundays. Definitely check it out for lunch or dessert if you haven't yet. They've been around for 50 years for a reason.

This is my review of the chocolate. I will be back to try some lunch. I stopped in here to get a few chocolates as were four dozen other patrons. The confiserie was bustling and it looked like the dining room was nearly full as well. I went with an assortment of truffles and decadent looking chocolates. My two favorites by far were the milk chocolate truffle and the orange peel. I am so glad I took the advice of the staff and got a few orange peels which is the most flavor popping treat. The lunch specials for the following week are posted near the front door, so be sure to check those out. I will be back soon to try lunch here and most likely a few more chocolates :)

I've never had a better lunch in my life. The food is simple and comfortable-- almost plain. The cooking and flavors are traditional and sure to please your mother (or grandmother) whom is still way too sophisticated for Waid's. If you want an adventure-- this isn't your place. This is a warm dining room next to a kitchen delivering nicely-prepared quiche, fish, salads, starch, and more. oh...and the deserts are probably some of the best you'll find in the region (they come with your lunch). The service is pretty average for any lunch dining room. Pretty unpolished, but endearing and friendly overall. I'm told many of the servers have been there for years if not decades (MANY regular customers as well). There's good reason. The dining room can be described the same way as the food. It is plain, well- lit, airy and comfortable. I would almost say euro-folksy in its delivery. It is so pleasant and simple that you want to spend a few hours over tea, but really can't. You also want to eat more desert, but don't need it. Andre's leaves you wanting more. I would drive out of my way to lunch at Andre's.

HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE LUNCH PLACE IN KC, MO lunch is only $12!!! i felt though I was robbing them... but the service and the pace was so slow that it really ticked me off. I was also surrounded by older customers (all 40+) and I think my lil sis and I were the youngest people there Food: the right portion and they've got that whole "home-cooked/rustic" thing down Service: let's not mention it again Price: CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!! chocolates & bakery stuff: OMG... I'M SO GONNA GET FAT! *i would give five stars but i CAN NOT stand their slow service

I do like the right-sized entrees and side dishes - some of which you can't find anywhere else. If I were just rating their salad dressing, Croutes and rolls, I'd give them a strong 3 stars, but their desserts take them down a star. Yes, the pastries are pretty, but they lack flavor. The cakes, mousses,frostings/ganache, fondantes would be practically indistinguishable were it not for the color. Having sampled an embarassingly large number of pastries in Germany and Austria, I can say that this is not how they are supposed to be. Delicate and subtle maybe, but not bland. The only exception is anything with almond/marzipan. At the end of the day, we're lucky to have Andre's, just wish their pastries were tastier.

Andre's is about tradition and one of our family traditions is Andre's chocolate-covered almonds. We prefer the powdered sugar version more than the cocoa version, but both are really good. I've had lunch there a few times and it is always good but the chocolate is what brings me back.

My mom and I love coming here. They have a great lunch set up. Something new everyday and several options. Everything is made perfect. BEST SALAD DRESSING IN THE WORLD. The sell it up front make sure to get some on your way out. The baked goods and chocolates are superb and can not be beat.

I always make a note of when Vol au Vent and the Stuffed Tomatoes are served. YUM!

The layout of this place is a little funny. You walk in and are confronted with open glass cases of desserts, chocolates, sweets. Then you notice a restaurant/tables in the back and you have to get "permission" from the wait staff in the back if you want to take your dessert back there and enjoy. The wait staff will then wait on you, bring you water and coffee. So we realized after we sat down with our desserts that this is also a full restaurant and the food looked pretty good but we just went for the sugary desserts. Lots of buttercream, sugar, different flavors. It was pretty good but I'd like to try to something else rather than the little cakes next time.

Good pastries. One can come in from the street and find a billion eye-popping sweets .... more than one can imagine. Massive selection of truffles and pastries. I would say it leans a bit on the expensive side, though it is nice that they take 25% off select pastries after 5 PM (half an hour before closing). They also have cakes for the occasion. Not completely sold that the taste is worth the money I'm putting down for it.

Andre's is one of our regular Saturday lunch spots. Nowhere else has this type of quality food. It seems no matter what they offer as the choices for the day, we enjoy it. The service is always fast and courteous. High quality meals at a reasonable price and DELICIOUS desserts. We have been going here for about 20 years and have no plans to stop. Of course, we usually leave with a nice box of their very fabulous Swiss pastries and a few boxes of chocolate covered almonds with powdered sugar. As a side note, we have learned to place the Andre's boxes with the sweets in the back of the car and out of reach to avoid dipping in before we get it home. You can't go wrong here.

Started coming to Andres in the late 1970's when I was in college. We would hoard our pennies for a week or two, because in college one is always poor, and then make a run to Andres. And in all these years, nothing has changed. Lunch is always superb-usually three to four different chef creations for the day and always cheese or quiche Lorraine pies as choices, staff is always impeccable, customer service is always top notch-- and the cheese pie is the best quiche I have ever eaten. Love the Napoleons-light and flaky; the chocolate truffles make me speechless. A great lunch place. Always a line waiting-but not too long. Always worth it!

This place is great for picking up gifts. They have lots of little treats that are nicely wrapped and boxed nuts and chocolates. Their cakes are beautiful and taste light and airy. The pastries are a favorite among my friends, a little small (hey it's Swiss, not American super-sized) but full of taste.

I recently went back to Andre's for lunch and was not impressed. The food had good flavor, but my chicken was pretty dry and was topped with dried herbs. I don't recall them ever not using fresh ingredients before. Maybe they had an off day for whatever reason. In any event, I maintain that their pastries are freakin' good. Another reviewr got it right about the chocolates, however. Christopher Elbow is definitely the man in that department.

What is the deal with this place and service? I love going here for lunch, and service in the dining room is AWESOME. But after lunch, I was picking up a cake and some candies and both of the women I dealt with at the pastry/candy counter were absolutely rude. I asked about a couple of the unmarked pastries and got sighs and eyerolls and a sarcastic tone of voice with my response. Get it together, Andre's. This has clearly been a consistent problem for you for several years. Whatever you're doing in terms of training, it's not working.

2.5 stars. The pastries are delicious. My main complaint is the customer service. I live in another state and have called Andre's on a few occasions to have pastries, truffles, and tortes delivered to local KC addresses. Each time I've called I've spoken with a different person and each person who has answered the phone made it seem as if I was wasting her time. No one wanted to answer questions regarding what was available in store, flavors, or if weather was warm, how items would be packaged. If I could have found this information out for myself on their website I would have not bothered to call. However, the site only shows a few tortes available for shipping and not what is available locally. I think from now on I'll support local businesses where I live.

I was here as part of a group of 15 for lunch, and while I had never been here before, I did know of its existence. Kind of. I always thought they just did sweets, and had no idea they had actual food and a dining area. I'll be darned! So we sat in tables of four and my table got 2x Quiche Lorraine (cheese and bacon), 1x vegetarian of a nut curry over rice, and 1x beef brisket with mashed potatoes. All came with a small, okay salad. The quiche was the hit. Absolutely phenomenal - creamy, flavorful and gooey. My brisket was quite good and tender. The veg dish was only okay, as per its taster. We also had bottles of Pinot Noir that was really quite excellent. I am not sure what the price was, though, but I don't believe it was too bad. The desserts are sinful. Chocolatey, moist, wonderful. Service throughout was incredibly friendly and quite efficient. The limited menu means food comes out fairly quickly, and the price of $15 with tax seems fair as it includes a drink too (non-alcoholic).

My husband and I have patronized Andres over many years ( over 20 at least). I have to say the lunches have deteriorated to very mediocre for the price. The pastries are still just as wonderful as they were many years ago. I still go there to buy a special Valentine torte or birthday cake. The service is great behind the pastries counter, but the service we had last Saturday in the dining room was the worst we have ever encountered there. The hostess was rude, and the server was extremey curt and had no idea how to serve coffee or collect plates after eating (she demanded that my husband hand her the plate, even though we were not boxed in by a wall). Very disappointing.

This was wonderful and the lunch menu looked good. It is a bit too high priced and portoins are small but it is good. I recommend going though.

Hubs & I and assorted members of our families have been meeting at Andre's for lunch in the Tea Room for many years. And when we recently enjoyed a lunch outing there, I realized I had neglected to do a Yelp review. Visits used to be a yearly affair centered around Christmas time visits by out of town family members but now that our Sis lives locally, we make it a few more times per year. The menu is served prix fixe with entree, salad or soup selection, lovely crusty bakery roll, dessert and choice of drink. The price is around $15.35 per person. The daily menu generally offers two entree selections each day. At least one entree will be meatless. Quiche Lorraine and Cheese quiche are also served daily if you do not wish either of the daily entrees. On our recent visit I enjoyed the Beef Bourguignon, spatzil and a salad that included pickled beets and Hubby had Quiche Lorraine. We both got Matterhorns which are lovely chocolate "mountains" with a dollop of whipped cream. Service is quite good and the whole vibe is of a genteel nature where you never feel rushed or pressured to finish up and get out even though they have capacity crowds nearly every day. Service is always efficient and many of their servers have been with Andre's for a long time, so you will feel pampered and looked after. The dining area is decorated with chalet detail and does not change very much but that does not imply that the surroundings are allowed to be shabby, just traditionally very much the same from year to year. Since Andre's front of house is a very successful bakery, the dessert tray offers some very lovely and tasty creations most of which include some type of cake. The hardest part of your visit may be making the choice from the tray of only one dessert. Tearoom Hours are Tuesday through Saturday and they are open from late morning until about 2:30 PM. The bakery hours are from 8:30 to 5:00. They are closed Sunday & Monday. During the Christmas holiday season the Main Street location may also be open on Monday, but I would suggest you check on the web or telephone the store to verify the operating hours before making the trip. I nearly always love the food at the tearoom and really enjoy my visits to Andre's. Some traditions are just worth preserving and sharing the time with family is priceless.

Andre's is sensory overload in the best way possible. The waitstaff in the lunchroom is always friendly. I've had the same waitress both times but she is very personable and professional. LOVE HER. The food is simply out of sight! If you are there for any length of time you may actually forget you're in KC and transport to a real Swiss chalet, if only in your mind. The chocolate shop is very tempting and everything I've tried has been more than worth the indulgent price and calories. The ladies there can be a tad cold...not quite Soup Nazi caliber, but they'll still bristle your nerves if you are just wanting to order and go. If you are a visitor to KC or are bringing visitors to KC you MUST have lunch at Andre's and get some chocolates to go. It may be in the bylaws or a city ordinance or something. You just have to do it. Kidding! But seriously...

Chocolate & cookies only review. I have not tried the lunch yet but have only heard good things. I LOVE this place. The chocolates are very good. Some of them are pretty standard treats, but they are also trying some more interesting flavor combinations. According to my taste buds, they use good quality chocolate. My favorites are their chocolate covered orange peels and their pistachio marzipan chocolate. I love the Swiss influence, especially the unique chocolates and flavor combinations that their tradition brings to Andre's. Their tea cookies are ah-mazing. Their pricing is reasonable for high quality chocolates. As for customer service, both my husband and I have had great customer service. However, I did experience poor service one time in which the young clerks were too busy gabbing/gossiping behind the counter to pay attention to their customers. Thus, I can completely understand others' complaints. I hope their service issues have improved, because I would hate to see this KC gem struggle.

This is the confiserie I grew up with; it is so lovely, warm and amazing. I believe it is still a family run business and the staff are always gracious, even at their most busy. It is truly a treat and the only cake I will buy for special occasions, when I get to spend them in Kansas City. (Andre's please open a location in the Bay Area). Their quality has remained consistent for many years. A truly special place in the world...

I thought andres was lovely. I went in for a pastry and coffee. The woman at the counter was very friendly and helpful and patient. They had their easter pastries and chocolates on sale because it was after the holiday, but they were still fresh. I sat in the dining area after choosing my desserts and the server was also very friendly. The coffee was good. I saw other people eating lunch, and I am definitely going to come back to try a meal. The dining area was aesthetically pleasing, plenty of space and well lit, with more intimate tucked away areas as well. My only wish was that they serve espresso in addition to drip coffee.
